Do you see how I’m shouting? Growing up, I used to want to be an Opera singer. But now, I think my only talent is screaming louder and more obnoxiously than anyone else. That’s one big fat YIKES!

Possibly scariest photo online to date- taken with a tambourine and a tad too much Soju running through my veins at a Karaoke Bar in Korea Town.

What did I do this weekend? Well, let’s just say we had a whole night.
My little sister’s first birthday in the city was a real showstopper (even if she was a bit under the weather). We had a night full of amazingly insane rockin’ company, that pretty much made this year. My sister’s not one to gush compliments, so you can imagine my surprise when Liz proclaimed, “This is the best birthday ever”

Any day now, I’ll be getting my new iMac mounted on the wall in lieu of a television. I made this decision with the knowledge that there are a plethora of ways to bypass a monthly cable bill by using resources on the Internet. Here’s a couple sites that initially come to mind:

  • Hulu: Allows you to watch your favorite shows and featured movies in HD. You can even download a player on your desktop to make viewing even easier. Featured television shows include: The Office, Saturday Night Live, Prison Break, The Simpsons, House, and (my personal favorite) Family Guy.
  • ABC: Watch all your favorite shows like Lost (HD), Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs, Cougartown, etc.
  • Veoh TV: This website allows you to do much of what Hulu’s does, but allows you to bookmark your favorite “Channels” and have show recommendations sent right to your computer.
  • Channelsurfing.net: Great website for live sporting events. Cricket, anyone?
  • MTV: Watch your entire favorite shows like Pranked, The Hills, The City, etc.
  • Boxee: On demand television content that allows you to share, stream, and watch. Boxee has a social networking component that allows you to watch and listen to you and your friend’s favorite media.

I’m compiling a more detailed list and would love to know if anyone else has used resources on the Internet to avoid that monthly cable bill. If so, what other sites and tools are you using? Apple TV? XBox 360 w/ Netflix?

All of the sudden, after taking a look at Motorola’s “iDont” commercial I’m suddenly interested in testing out the new Droid. What can I say? I’m a sucker for creative marketing and new features.

Howcast just launched their very first Android application- and guys, it’s a good one! Using their app, you can now search, browse, and watch all of Howcast’s hilarious videos in the palm of your hand. It even let’s you pause to see each step in the video timeline and navigate frame by frame.
In addition, Howcast just made it to the 2nd round of the Google Android Developer Challenge, with a top prize of $100,000! I always like to plug companies I believe in, so if you have an Android phone, please install the ‘ADC2’ application from the Market, then vote for the application.
Let them know what you think about this new Android application (seriously, be as honest as possible) at feedback@howcast.com or message them on Twitter - @Howcast. And next time you’re searching for a video tutorial on anything your little “How-to-heart” desires; I suggest you check out Howcast for some of the most brilliantly produced content on the web.

I think that we are necessarily moving toward a geek culture. The health of our society is going to rely on information technology. It’s going to rely on a familiarity with math and science and technology. Geekery in general is founded on questioning and proof via analysis of the actual world and not the world as we wish it to be. By contrast, jockdom — not sports — jock culture proceeds from a certainty you create in your mind: ‘My town is the best because the incredibly wealthy owners decided to keep the team for now.’ Or, ‘My political team is the best because it was my dad’s and they best stoke my primitive fears,’ as opposed to ‘They have the best policies for me and my family.’

Jockdom is very noble. It’s not deliberative. It’s certainly the best way to win wars. It’s the best way to motivate teams of people to fulfill a goal — not just war, but getting things done. The most important way to motivate a factory floor. But as you know, we’re not as much of a manufacturing society as we were before. China and other big industrial nations are rewarding their nerds and technicians rather than creating a culture that makes fun of them — it would be wise for us to embrace the book-smart as much as our culture has traditionally embraced the street-smart, the jock-smart. I’m not saying nerds must have their revenge; I’m just saying the time for wedgies is at an end.

The new Apple Store on the Upper West Side is rumored to be opening November 20th. A Friday night party at the Apple Store? That’s just how I like it! I was at opening of the Apple Store in the Meatpacking District two years ago- it was an absolute madhouse! I have a feeling that this UWS opening will be even more popular. Look out New Yorkers, for lines around the block with fangirls and boys screaming Steve’s name.
The ultimate Apple block party? You bet!

The best part of Kiran’s collection is that she plans to pair her line with philanthropic organizations. All manufacturing is done in India under Kiran’s supervision. I think we both have the same mindset - what’s the point of making money if you aren’t helping others and ultimately making a difference.
