I’m scheduled tomorrow to interview a NYC based company called My Jambi (don’t worry I’ll make sure to ask about the origin of the name). I met them about a month ago at the Tech Crunch50, so I wanted to brief myself tonight on exactly what they do. In short, I was pretty shocked that I ACTUALLY used this site for something other than beautifying pictures, finding out my twitter ratings, or connecting to friends. I sign up for beta tests all the time (seriously, I’ve signed up for hundreds in the past few months) and rarely do I really find something that would be useful to me in the OUTSIDE world (sans computer). Well, tonight I must admit that I’m already impressed with My Jambi.
What does this site actually do? It’s a ‘social marketplace for services’. Why make a social network for services? It’s their belief that ‘buying and selling services’ is a social experience. I tend to agree, how many times do you get referrals from others about housekeepers? Personally, I don’t feel comfortable having a cleaner in my apartment, unless I get some decent referrals from friends. I really didn’t expect to use this site, all I wanted to do is check out the interface and vamoose. What’s interesting is I actually found myself scheduling a closet organizer (who’s also a Parsons student- SWEET!) for $15 an hour.
So far, My Jambi looks better than using the classified service section on Craigslist. I know that the majority of users are NYC based, but I’m hoping with this little post you will check My Jambi out and tell me what you think. For some reason, I’m particularly excited about someone looking at my closet with an eye for organization, you can find so many different services within your area, everything from web design to dog sitters. I’ll blog about the My Jambi set up if it proves to be any good. In the meantime, I’ll sit dreaming about how my closet will look after the My Jambi closet organizer comes to do a complete overhaul. In an economy that’s so unstable, I’m glad to find some semblance of reason from straightening my bursting wardrobe.
